Managing Director

Gawie Roodt is a Johannesburg-based engineer with a wealth of experience in industrial engineering, transport economics and quality management systems. He has worked extensively in the steel and FMCG industries.

With proven managerial skills, Gawie is also an excellent mentor, consultant and trainer, able to share information, analyse systems, untap productivity, unlock production efficiencies and get more out of people, machinery and processes.

Throughout his career, Gawie has used his skills to enhance business, operating and manufacturing environments. As an ISO expert, Gawie understands best practice approaches and assists companies to operate in line with leading national and international standards.

Gawie is Managing Director of Africa Industrial Engineering Services (AIES), a consulting and training business focused mainly on industrial engineering, transport economics and quality management systems. Gawie has a broad skills base, including the following:

Relevant Work Experience:

Project Team Leader: Iscor

In this role, Gawie used process and work studies to improve flow and manpower optimisation. He also implemented zero-defect quality principles and achieved significant process improvements.

Assistant Factory Manager & Industrial Engineer: British American Tobacco (BAT)

In this role, Gawie implemented numerous continuous improvement processes. He also designed, installed and managed changes from manual processes to state-of-the-art automation.

Mega-Manufacturing Manager: ABI (Coca-Cola)

In this role, Gawie reduced waste in the factory by 50% and consolidated manufacturing operations, working closely with a team from McKinsey Consultants. His plant was awarded “Plant of the Year” in 1997.

Black Belt Six Sigma: Consol Glass

In this role, Gawie proved his skills in Lean Six Sigma Methodology by leading complex improvement projects and ultimately receiving the internationally-recognised Black Belt accreditation from the IASSC. He led projects that resulted in waste reduction, shorter lead times, product line optimisation, new product development and lean process implementation, all culminating in substantial cost savings.

Gawie later qualified for a second Black Belt Six Sigma certificate and achieved the Master Black Belt status while working as a Lean Manufacturing and Quality Manager at Timken, a US-based company.
